In Flavignac, students imagine the future

Last week, Flavignac received around twenty architecture students from Bordeaux, who came to work on a rehabilitation project in the historic centre.

“Outside the Walls” Workshops, a win-win concept

Since 2016, the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park has been organizing "Off-Campus" workshops with numerous universities across France. These workshops bring teams of students from various disciplines to the region to develop projects with local communities focused on revitalizing rural areas . These encounters allow municipalities to gain a fresh perspective on their rehabilitation projects, while providing young people with hands-on training through concrete projects in welcoming environments. A win-win situation for everyone.

For this academic year 2024-2025, 3 Off-Site workshops are planned in the territory of the Park, in Flavignac, Saint-Pierre-de-Frugie and in the Périgord-Limousin community of municipalities.

Imagining the future of Flavignac

In Flavignac, the project concerns the redevelopment of an urban block on a historic street in the town center : located on Rue Pasteur, the Chibois-Auvert block is an opportunity for the municipality to carry out a high-quality urban operation that is part of the urban challenges of tomorrow: quality housing, meeting places, soft mobility, local life…

For this project, the municipality and the Regional Natural Park are working with the Regional Campus for Built Heritage, covering restoration and eco-construction, headquartered at the Felletin Vocational High School for Building Trades (Creuse), which offers six complementary training programs. Students from the Master's program in "Atmospheres and Comfort, Architectural and Urban Design" (ACCAU) at the University of Bordeaux visited the site on September 17th and 18th, 2024. Over two days, they took measurements of the buildings, met with residents, distributed questionnaires to local businesses, and immersed themselves in the village's lifestyle and atmosphere.

From the beginning of October, the Building Information Modeling (BIM) students will come to spend a day on the site, to continue the surveys necessary for the 3D modeling of the entire block.

Following these visits, the students will present their first sketches to the municipality in mid-January 2025. Their proposals for the rehabilitation of the Chibois-Auvert block will contribute to the municipality's thinking on the future of this urban block.
