In Flavignac, development proposals are becoming clearer

After nearly a year of collaboration and field visits, the 60 students involved in the Chibois-Auvert (Flavignac) urban block redevelopment project presented the results of their work to the municipality. These projects and an approach will be revealed in September at an exhibition!

An educational and collaborative urban planning project

Launched in October with the arrival of aspiring architects, the Flavignac “off-site” workshop brought together students from 6 complementary training courses: architecture, civil engineering, heritage rehabilitation, construction trades and digital modeling (BIM). Brought together by the Park, they all worked on a joint project, with the aim of rethink the layout of a group of traditional buildings that have fallen into disuseThe visits of the different groups made it possible to carry out an in-depth diagnosis of the building (volumes, structural weaknesses, etc.) as well as energy and network analyses.

Throughout the year, each training session took over from the previous ones, adjusting the projects based on interim presentations and feedback from elected officials. Thus, in January, the aspiring architects proposed six preliminary projects, two of which were selected by the community for consolidation by subsequent groups.
This educational approach allowed young people to work in quasi-professional conditions, while feeding into the municipal reflection on the future of the buildings concerned. A final restitution was held in June 2025, to present the outcome of the various development projects.

Promoting social ties and reducing the environmental impact of buildings

These projects, developed in constant dialogue with the municipality, are part of the Campus' desire to favor the most sober and local materials, to reduce the building's energy consumption, to aim for a passive building and to analyze the life cycle of the project. Priorities common to those desired by the territory through the Regional Natural Park.

As proof of the quality of the work accomplished, one of the student groups was a winner of the national competition "Les Génies de la Construction". Their project includes the rehabilitation of several buildings to accommodate intergenerational housing and the creation of two studios accessible to people with reduced mobility. It also includes collective spaces: cultural café, creative workshops, shared nursery, communal garden and even sales and exhibition premises. A pedestrian path connecting the different areas of the site is also envisaged. The whole is designed to promote social ties and reduce the environmental impact, with a project that focuses on eco-rehabilitation with local materials and improved energy performance.

An approach and work to discover

To enhance the approach, a documentary film (below), co-produced with the various trainers, the municipality and the Park, gives a voice to the workshop participants and highlights the interest of this type of professional immersion. In addition, an exhibition will be presented in September and will allow us to present both the approach and the students' development proposals.

By focusing on collective intelligence and co-construction, the Flavignac project has provided the community with concrete elements to guide its future development directions, while promoting the skills and creativity of younger generations. Two other workshops of this type were also coordinated by the Park in 2024-2025: in Saint-Pierre-de-Frugie, on food autonomy and landscape, and to the south of the Park with the University of Limoges, on the theme of food insecurity in rural areas.
