HEADING TOWARDS 2026

Updated December 18, 2025

The year 2026 will be marked by "continuity in change" for the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park. While the review of the territorial development plan continues, governance is set to evolve following the municipal elections. Anticipating these changes, the Park's joint association reaffirms its commitment to working towards a sustainable territory, attentive to environmental, social, and climate challenges.

This collective momentum, driven jointly by elected officials, partners, and residents, is taking shape through numerous on-the-ground actions and structuring initiatives. The year 2026 promises to be full of projects and key events, building on the actions undertaken in 2025.

JANUARY | Co-construction of a new biodiversity strategy & Adoption of the Multi-Year Management Program for the upper Dronne

Biodiversity strategy: As part of the development of the biodiversity strategy at the Park level, new consultation workshops should make it possible to identify priority sectors and actions to be taken in order to increase the number of areas placed under strong protection in the territory.

Upper Dronne: Following the public inquiry conducted in autumn 2025, the Upper Dronne Multi-Year Management Program is expected to be definitively adopted early next year. This document, which includes 26 concrete actions to be implemented, provides the Upper Dronne and Côle watershed with an essential planning tool to improve water quality and the ecological functions of the Dronne River. FEBRUARY | Performance of "A Life of Drops" & Vote on the draft charter

A Drop's Life: As part of World Wetlands Day, the Park is presenting a free, colorful show for all ages! The company L'Escargot dans les orties (The Snail in the Nettles) will tell the adventures of a group of water droplets. The show will be followed by the unveiling of the educational model about water, designed by the Park, and then a friendly snack for the public. Learn more

Vote on the draft charter: After two years of consultation and drafting, the draft charter will be submitted to a vote by local elected officials at the February joint committee meeting. It will then be sent to the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region to continue the renewal process for the "Regional Natural Park" designation. This document sets out the territory's ambitions and actions for the next fifteen years. Learn more

MARCH | Budget Vote & Municipal Elections

Budget vote: This year again, in a demanding budgetary context for local government finances, the joint association will adopt its budget for 2026 at the beginning of March. On this occasion, it will also validate its action program, included in the multi-year agreement that binds it to the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region.

Municipal elections: The Regional Natural Park is administered by a joint association comprised of nearly 80% delegates appointed from within the municipal councils. The municipal elections are therefore a key moment in the life of the Park, as they lead to the renewal of a significant portion of its governing board. Learn more

SPRING | Restoration work at the Mazieras mill complete

Following the first phase of work carried out in autumn 2025, the river's natural bed will be restored in the former Maziéras reservoir. The completion of this project will allow the river to regain a more natural, dynamic flow, thus creating a more favorable environment for biodiversity. Learn more

≃ JUNE | Election of a new executive

Following the municipal elections and the renewal of municipal and inter-municipal delegates, the delegates of the joint association will be called upon to elect a new executive for the Regional Natural Park. Learn more

AUGUST | A new chapter in the history of the Park

By August 2026, 15 years will have passed since the last classification. This administrative deadline will require elected officials and the technical team to continue and strengthen their commitment to a preserved, vibrant, and resilient territory in order to achieve the publication of a new classification decree by early 2029.

OCTOBER | 3rd meeting “Adapting to climate change”

Following on from the first two meetings held in 2025, the Park will once again bring together local elected officials and partners to share concrete solutions for adapting to tomorrow's climate and ensuring the sustainability of public projects. This meeting will be an excellent opportunity to engage newly elected officials. Learn more

AUTUMN | Inauguration of the first "buzzing gardens"

Launched in 2023, the creation of "buzzing gardens" brings together elected officials and residents in the development of public spaces that benefit pollinators. The municipalities of Chalais, Cussac, Maisonnais-sur-Tardoire, Bussière-Badil, Dournazac, and the Pays de Nexon Monts de Châlus inter-municipal authority are benefiting from this project support. Following various participatory workshops conducted in recent years, the first gardens are expected to be inaugurated in the fall of 2026. Learn more

THROUGHOUT THE YEAR | Promoting the heritage of Périgord-Limousin

Park Events: This year again, the Park will continue its long-standing programs to raise awareness among young people and will also offer numerous free activities for everyone to discover the natural, cultural, and landscape heritage of the area. Learn more

Exhibition: Following its inauguration in October 2025, the "Industrial and Craft Heritage of the Park" exhibition will be made available to the various municipalities within the Park. Comprising texts, photographs, and paper models, this exhibition highlights a heritage that is still too little known. Its installation is planned for winter 2025-26 in the media libraries of Saint-Pardoux-la-Rivière and Ladignac-le-Long. Learn more

The Park is reinvesting in the forest: The forest is a major element of the landscape, natural resources, and economy of the region. The year 2026 must mark the Park's renewed investment in this strategic area. This momentum will be reflected, firstly, by the recruitment of a "Forest and Climate Change Adaptation" intern, starting in February 2026 for a period of six months, in partnership with the National Center for Forest Ownership (CNPF). Secondly, it will be achieved by replacing the position of forest project manager in order to re-establish sustainable forest engineering within the Park team and to strengthen support for local stakeholders.
