Climadiag, a tool to find out about the climate changes expected in your community

The climate emergency is here. To act, it is necessary to know precisely the climate changes to which each territory will have to adapt. This is why Météo France has created the Climadiag tool, accessible online for free.

Climadiag is an online platform that offers climate projections at the municipal or inter-municipal scale over different time steps (2030, 2050, 2100) and based on the latest scientific data. The tool allows you to visualize the evolution of temperatures, precipitation, extreme climatic events and specific impacts for each territory. Once the territory and time step have been chosen by the user, the tool instantly generates a summary of the locally available data, downloadable in pdf format.

The Shell in 2050

If we take the example of La Coquille, which hosts the premises of the Park, Climadiag is planning a warming of 2°C in 2050 compared to the recent climate, with warming more marked in summer than in winter. The number of days of frost should decrease significantly, from 35 days to around 19 days per year. In terms of rainfall, the annual cumulative precipitation should change little, on the other hand, Rain will probably be less frequent in summer and stronger in winter.

The synthesis provided by Climadiag also makes it possible to identify the natural hazards likely to intensify in La Coquille: vegetation fires, summer and autumn droughts, shrinkage and swelling of clays (a phenomenon that affects the ground and weakens buildings), heat waves with very hot days and nights for more than 5 days in a row. On the other hand, the risk of a cold wave should decrease in La Coquille.

Faced with climate upheavals and the intensification of risks, our territories must implement climate change adaptation measures today. The Park aims to support communities in this process.
