Rochechouart CM1/CM2 discover the agricultural world

To start the year off in style, the CM1/CM2 class at Rochechouart primary school enjoyed an activity on Tuesday, January 14, on the theme of "My peasant neighbor." This first morning of discussion should be followed by a second and then a visit to a market gardener established in the town!

Raising awareness among children…

Funded by the Park and hosted by La Soupape Sauvage, this intervention aimed to familiarize young people with the agricultural world, which is so important in our region.

For 2 hours, the students were able to discover the profession of farmer and the different types of agricultural production, using numerous educational materials. The discussions also provided an opportunity to recall where our food comes from and promote local and seasonal food. Very attentive, the children participated actively: “ Corn is used for silage in our country. " Lucas explained. " A flower is like a restaurant for bees " marveled Alice.

Everyone is already looking forward to June, when they should visit Cedric's farm, "Onion makes strength", producer of organic vegetables and small fruits, located a stone's throw from their school. Beforehand, the students will have prepared the outing during a second intervention in class. Enough to become an expert on the life cycle of vegetables, the distinction between raw and processed products, or even the market gardening profession.

Special feature of this program, in addition to the 3 activities with the students, The Park finances a preparation session for the host farmers, previously to the visit to their farm. The objective of this half-day of support is to give them keys to best welcome young people on their farm. Tested last year, this formula was a real success and led to the creation of partnerships between facilitators and farmers, for the organization of new outings outside the framework of the school programs coordinated by the Park. A fine example of the positive impact of the Park's action on the territory!

Alongside the CM1/CM2 of Rochechouart, it is in all 51 primary school classes who are benefiting this year from activities coordinated and financed by the Park as part of its program Explorers. Among them, 10 chose to work on "My peasant neighbor" for nearly 140 students made aware of this theme in the municipalities of Bussière-Galant, Brantôme en Périgord, Rochechouart and Saint Junien. The other classes will address various subjects related to the riches of Périgord-Limousin: insects, water, crafts, etc.
