Wetlands in the spotlight

World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year on February 2. On this occasion, the Park organized two events for schools and the general public.

Numerous in the territory of the Park, wetlands are valuable environments in terms of environment: in addition to the particular biodiversity that they host, they play an important role in storing and restoring water and act as a filter, thus ensuring better water quality. The Park therefore strives to preserve these environments and to raise awareness among as many people as possible of their importance.

Raising awareness among schoolchildren and residents

On Tuesday February 11, it was the students of Nontron who benefited from an interactive and sound conference on wetlands, hosted by the association For the Children of the Country of BeleymeThe event took place at the Cité Scolaire Alcide Dusolier in Nontron and raised awareness among 2nd and 1st year general and vocational classes about the roles and functions of wetlands.

On Wednesday, February 19, the first “Rendez-vous du Parc” of the year was open to all and took place at the Grolhier pond. With a surface area of ​​approximately 27 ha, this pond is one of the most remarkable ornithological sites in the territory. It is a place frequented by many species of wintering and sedentary birds. The surrounding wetlands are also rich and diverse. Accompanied by project managers from the Park and the Dordogne Hunters Federation, participants were able to observe the birds present on the site and discover this remarkable natural space.
