The youngest discovering the night
During the holidays, the Park continues its work to raise awareness among young people, through leisure centers and its PARCoureurs program. Younger generations are invited to explore to discover the local riches that surround them.
In connection with its actions to preserve the starry sky and its candidacy for the International Dark Sky Reserve label, the Park wanted this year that the youngest could familiarize yourself with the night world and understand why darkness must be made.
For the 2024 edition of the program, 9 structures (children's and adolescent leisure centers and structures welcoming families) are supported, distributed in the communities of communes of Val de Vienne, Pays de Nexon – Monts de Châlus, Périgord-Limousin, Périgord Nontronnais and Dronne and Belle. In total 280 children, 36 adolescents and around twenty families have benefited or will benefit from activities on the theme of the night.
As usual, Parc relies on its partners of the local network to carry out interventions in the structures. The activities are as varied as the projects : observations of the night sky, nocturnal biodiversity outings (bats, amphibians, etc.), making tealight holders, little games to tame your fear of the night, investigation game “In the shoes of a chiropterologist” (the scientist who studies bats), planetarium, construction of bat shelters, night in the trees, activities around light pollution, storytelling, etc. The activities are adapted to the age of the children and the objectives of the project of each reception center. hobbies.
At the start of the school year, the Park will continue its mission of education in the region, with the resumption of its two flagship programs, explorers et the experts du Parc, which allow students and their teachers to discover their immediate environment to develop a feeling of belonging to the region and eco-citizen behavior while making students active participants in their learning.
In this context, the Parc is currently looking for animators to intervene in class and in the field, around different themes (art crafts, water, biodiversity, agriculture, etc.).
