The park charter and its revision

The charter is the territorial project which structures the actions of the Regional Natural Park for a period of 15 years. It defines the orientations for the protection, enhancement and development of the territory, as well as the measures which enable it to implement them.

The park charter

The charter is a contract through which the forces of the territory take part in the same project. The charter is based in particular on the involvement of local authorities; it is signed by the municipalities, the groupings of municipalities (known as public intermunicipal cooperation establishments or EPCI), the departments and the region. Everyone thus undertakes to respect the objectives of the charter and to participate in the park's actions.

The role of the park is not to constrain, but to convince. The park is based on an inhabited rural area rich in exceptional heritage. The charter must therefore reconcile the issues; issues of development of a living territory and issues of preservation of the natural, cultural and landscape heritage of this same territory.

To respond to the challenges of the territory and implement the charter, the Park must rely on a multidisciplinary team and bring together local stakeholders to imagine innovative solutions.

The revision of the charter

To obtain the “Regional Natural Park” label from the State and maintain it, the territory must develop a new charter every 15 years. This new contract is drawn up by the municipalities, intermunicipalities, Departments and the Region concerned, before being approved by the Region and the State.

In Périgord-Limousin, the current charter was established for 2011-2026. It is now time for the Park to undergo review and develop a new charter for 2026-2041.
