The night... qualified by its darkness, it is often associated with the domain of the evil, with the notions of impure and forbidden, with the world of ignorance and the haunt of all bandits and criminals. Light, for its part, symbolizes progress, order and reason. Darkness has continued to be driven out of the hearts of cities and even the countryside, with light keeping darkness away from honest people.

Today, the night is endangered, even beyond its darkness, in its essential role on chronobiological rhythms. The excess of artificial lighting raises the question of its very disappearance. Is it because we are afraid of the night that we gradually tend to make it disappear?

Awareness of the phenomenon of light pollution pushes many actors to act for the protection and preservation of darkness. Does the night, and everything it encompasses, become a heritage to be preserved? The nocturnal environment is precious, the degradation of darkness impacts visual access to the starry sky, the health of human beings by modifying the sleep rhythm, but also nocturnal biodiversity by disturbing the movements, the interactions of (and between) ) species. Finding darkness means preserving a precious heritage: Night.
