Guided tour training: the successful bet of the Park and the "Ca circule" recycling center

Updated 29 Sep 2025

The recycling center staff " It's circulating » has benefited in recent months from tailor-made training provided by the Regional Natural Park, to lead guided tours of its site. The Heritage Days were an opportunity to put into practice the advice received.

Tailor-made support

For several years, the Park has been offering support to tourist, cultural and heritage structures that wish to do so in order to work welcoming groups. Technical training is offered to them to (re)qualify their offer on animations or guided tours of sites. The overall objective is to continue to increase the quality of the offer on the territory of the Park.

It is in this context that the recycling center "ça circule", located in La Monnerie in Cussac, contacted the Park in the fall of 2024. The former spinning mill of La Monnerie, closed in the mid-1990s in the midst of the textile industry crisis, is a vestige of a significant economic activity in the town. Newly installed on this site, it seemed interesting that the recycling center be able to offer guided tours on the occasion of the next European Heritage Days. The Park having carried out an inventory on this industrial site and organized guided tours in the past, a partnership seemed obvious.

During 2025, several sessions of training of volunteers and employees of the association were therefore led by the Park's Heritage Project Manager, a qualified tour guide. The first session allowed lay the foundations for a successful guided tour : how to define it, for which audience, define its discourse… Two other sessions were necessary to prepare the future guided tour of the La Monnerie site.

European Heritage Days

On Sunday, September 21, 4 volunteers from the recycling center were able to put their support into practice, during 6 guided tours shared between them and the Park's project manager. Upon reservation, the slots were taken by storm by visitors, and the day counted more than 250 participantsThe volunteers had prepared fact sheets summarizing their speech, and tools such as reproductions of old postcards to best guide the audience.

In light of this great success, a review is planned for the beginning of October and should lead to the continuation of this action on a more regular basis. The association will have to define internally, and with the Communauté de communes Ouest Limousin, owner of the site, the actions they wish to pursue in this direction. The Park will be able to do so for its part. provide technical assistance and tailored support for in situ installation.

The “Ca circule” recycling center experience at the Monnerie site is a successful example of a partnership promoting heritage. The Park is available to local stakeholders who wish to offer guided tours and benefit from this type of support.
