Description
An essential site of our destination, Châlus-Chabrol shines throughout the world as a symbol of the famous King of England, Richard the Lionheart. He was mortally wounded here in 1199. The crossbow bolt he received made him suffer for a few days before breathing his last at the foot of the large fireplace located in the guard room.
The castle still represents today the resistance of the Viscounts of Limoges against the Plantagenets. It belonged to illustrious families such as the Sully, Albret, Borgia and Bourbon. The entrails of King Richard rest in the chapel.
