Description

In feudal times the castle was part of the Viscounty of Rochechouart which owned five castles. An enclave of Poitou, it was on the border of the Kingdom of France and the Duchy of Guyenne which belonged to England. The Cromières family was in possession of the castle until the fall of Châlus and the death of Richard the Lionheart in 1199. Following this, during the 200th century, the Pompadour family acquired it and owned it for almost XNUMX years. years. Then, the new buyer was Jean de Selves, first President of the Parliament of Bordeaux and later of the Parliament of Paris. Today the castle belongs to the Bermondet family including Jean de Bermondet, first Marquis of Cromières.
