Castle Jumilhac

Description

Arriving at Jumilhac-le-Grand, the tall and impressive silhouette of the Château de Jumilhac appears behind the Saint-Pierre-Es-Liens church. Your eye is irresistibly drawn to the astonishing Renaissance roofs of this noble haunt from the 12th century. Decorated with cones, pyramids and allegorical ridges on the theme of alchemy, they are renowned for being unique in Europe.
Once you cross the entrance porch, you discover the four main buildings making up the feudal castle. Browse the rooms and immerse yourself in the heart of the 16th and 17th centuries in the dining room with its adobe rosettes, the vaulted kitchen with brass drums or the small Louis XV living room and its adjacent study. In the room of the “spinner” with its enigmatic wall frescoes, a lady suspected of tender love was allegedly locked up for more than twenty years by her jealous husband…
