Mareuil Castle

Description

Seat of one of the four baronies of Périgord (with Beynac, Biron and Bourdeilles), the Château de Mareuil is a lowland castle rebuilt in the 15th century on the site of a medieval stronghold destroyed during the Hundred Years' War. Within the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park, the imposing silhouette of the castle stands at the entrance to Mareuil, revealing a flamboyant Gothic style pleasure residence.
Access the interior courtyard of the castle via a stone bridge and a gate with a portcullis. Inside, the rooms are decorated with beautiful paintings and furnished with Louis XV, Louis XVI and Regency period furniture. In addition to a flamboyant Gothic style chapel, the Château de Mareuil – which can only be visited by appointment – also houses a museum dedicated to Marshal Lannes. Guided tours only
