Montbrun Castle

Description

The Montbrun Fortress, a 12th and 15th-century military stronghold, is revealed around a bend in the road, nestled in a magnificent green setting. Standing beside a pond, this remarkable structure is undeniably grand and is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and picturesque monuments in the Limousin region. The current fortress was built in 1179. Its Romanesque machicolated keep, "Le Grand Jacques," its four round towers, and its moat-like pond, reflecting its unique silhouette, form a remarkable ensemble, making it a veritable fairytale castle. Purchased in 1995 and after extensive restoration, decoration, and furnishing work, the fortress is now open to the public by reservation. The guided tour will lead you to discover 13 sumptuous rooms!
