Description
Richemont Castle, consisting of two main buildings at right angles to each other, was built from 1564 by Pierre de Bourdeille, better known in literary history as Brantôme, a XNUMXth-century chronicler and commendatory abbot of Brantôme. After a fall from a horse that cut short his military career, the famous author of "Les Dames galantes" composed his works there and lived there until his death. He is buried in the chapel located in the tower. He wrote his own epitaph. On the first floor are the writing room adorned with woodwork, as well as the writer's bedroom. Guided tours are available from mid-July to the end of August. Entrance to the castle is via the driveway with visitor parking.
