This forge is one of the most important forges in the Bandiat steelmaking basin in the 18th century. It was a place of production of cast iron and steel. It was part of a vast group of forges which produced naval cannons for the Rochefort arsenal. Recent archaeological surveys have uncovered the casting pit for the blast furnace cannons. This discovery, a priori unique in France, allows us to understand how
the cannons were cast in this royal forge.
