Description
Rochechouart has kept the traces of the fall of a meteorite, 200 million years ago. The Maison de la Réserve (museum) strives to protect these rocks, visible in many constructions.
Its name is linked to the family of viscounts of Rochechouart who reigned for more than 800 years. It had its roots in the castle, built from the 1985th century on the rocky spur. It retains its XNUMXth century appearance and has housed the departmental museum of contemporary art since XNUMX. The city, formerly fortified, has an exceptional built heritage: the church and its twisted spire, the houses built in impactite, the house of the Consuls (XNUMXth century)…
Guided tours for groups focusing on the history of the town and the area around the castle. Discovery of the astrobleme (meteorite crater) at the Maison de la Réserve (Reserve House).
