Description
Founded, according to legend, by Charlemagne, the Benedictine abbey of Brantôme was a troglodyte abbey at the beginning of its history. In the limestone cliff located behind the convent buildings, caves open up that bear witness to the first occupation of the site: the "Last Judgment" cave and its two monumental bas-reliefs, a fountain dedicated to Saint Sicaire. The caves also contain remains of dwellings and dovecotes. Self-guided and/or guided tours.
