Jeanne d'Albret Tower

Description

Remains of the castle keep, which bears the name of Henry IV's mother.
A gate formerly controlled access to the fortified complex between the end of the bridge and the rock.
Today, the street bypasses the fortified domain of the Viscounts of Limoges which included several strongholds. The oldest, that of the Du Barrys, was located on the site of the current Imerys Tableware factory.
Nothing explains, other than a legend specifying that she would be buried there, the reasons which attributed the name of the mother of Henry IV to the remains of the castle which still dominate the confluence of the Vienne and the Aixette.
The Jeanne d'Albret tower represents the only vestiges of a fortified complex from the 100th century, witness to numerous conflicts of the Franco-English war, known as the XNUMX years war, the wars of religions and even the viscounty of Limoges.
