The Richard the Lionheart Route

The Richard the Lionheart Route brings together, over nearly 180 km, 23 sites open or accessible to the public. Its route is indicated in both directions by road signs with the Route heading: a crowned lion with a heart pierced by an arrow, recalling the tragic fate of Richard the Lionheart. Limousin, an autonomous region and historically highly coveted since Antiquity, contains in its rolling and green landscapes an important artistic and cultural heritage, associated with a rich military and religious past. Its western part has numerous castles or fortified buildings today distributed both in Haute-Vienne and Corrèze and along the borders of Charente and Dordogne. They were mostly built from the XNUMXth century, then modified and often remodeled by warlike necessity or by taste of fashion.
