The Périgord has its source in Haute-Vienne around 455 m above sea level in the Vieillecour forest. After a course of approximately 500 meters, its course serves as a natural limit for three kilometers between the Haute Vienne and the Dordogne, then will follow the RD until its junction with the Isle with which it confluences on the right bank, around 220 m altitude at a place called La Faye, 1km from Jumilhac-le-Grand. From this small town in the north of the Dordogne, known for its imposing castle remodeled over the centuries, in which a white lady is said to be hiding, you will go down to the edge of the Isle in which here, people look for gold, for follow, passing near a mill which was the first supplier of electricity for the town. Then, you will go up above a schist cliff, a rock typical of this territory, to head towards the hillsides, passing through the place called “La Grange”,
Route stages
Step 1 - 1 - From the Tourist Office, go around the square in front of the castle on the left and go straight on “Rue des Croix Bancaux”: view of the north face of the castle.
2 - Go down the asphalt road in a bend to the bridge which spans the Isle (540 ml). Take the path on the right which runs along the watercourse to the schist cliff of - Rocher du Château – (designed climbing trail, picnic table).
3 - Turn left on the forest path which goes up above the cliff and turn right on the communal path passing through “Bretenoux”. Take the road for around 200m and arrive at a place called “La Grange”.
4 - Turn right on the tarmac road until the intersection with the municipal road between “Les trois bornes” and “La Faye”.
5 - Turn right on 612 ml and cross the Périgord stream, parking is available by turning left on the RD76.
