A very long time ago, amazing beings lived on the Hill. Small and sickly, they were endowed with spectacular strength and know-how, they knew how to cut the rock into blocks or dig it into caves in which they took refuge in the extreme cold. The plateaus and woods around you hide an unusual story. Without her, there would have been no bread in our lives. A history that stretches over several thousand years: the extraction of millstones for grinding grains. This original industry has left behind a labyrinth of quarries littered with stone monsters, some Roman, others from yesterday. Set off to discover these millstones and rediscover the forgotten memory of the quarry people. Your journey through time, to the origins of bread, tells you the history of men, of the Rich Mountains, and of the mountains of round wheels.
Route stages
Step 1 - From the car park take a small road on the left which leads you into the woods.
Follow the path to a first station, which allows you to discover a viewpoint over the Brageaux plateau.
Step 2 - Continue the path through surprising vegetation, then the markings guide you to a discovery area about quarries and the extraction of a millstone.
Retrace your steps, follow the route which retraces the golden age of the site.
Step 3 - Continue straight ahead to discover the miracle of Saints Crépins and Crépinien and the end of the history of the people of Arkose.
Step 4 - Another step to visit the site and understand the birth of a rare stone, exploited by some great people.
Finally you will cross an old moor to reach the car park.
