The “Saut du Chalard” is an astonishing and refreshing place. Fresh as the Dronne, a river which here carves its way between the granite blocks, taking on the appearance of a torrent. To access the Saut du Chalard, a path descends through the forest in which conifers introduced at the beginning of the 20th century following the rural exodus rub shoulders with native deciduous trees. The granite blocks around the path remind us that we are still on the foothills of the Massif Central. The river that flows at the bottom of the valley has carved a path through this crystalline base over the millennia. These stone balls that she shaped are all over three hundred million years old. From Saint-Pardoux, the Dronne flows over the limestone of the Aquitaine basin; its valley widens and its course calms down
