The Vézelay route is one of the great pilgrimage routes taken by a thousand pilgrims each year who come from northern Europe before entering France and reaching Vézelay, one of the major departure points identified for the French routes.
This route enters Périgord via La Coquille.
From La Coquille to Thiviers, you will notice "the cup stone". it is the subject of various and varied legends. Make sure you count one if you meet someone from the country.
Arriving in Thiviers, you will admire the Saint Roch cross at the roundabout. At the Tourist Office, gourmets will enjoy the local produce shop, while others will take a break on the pilgrim's benches.
Route stages
Step 1 - From the church take rue La Boétie going down and at the end turn left on the D67 towards St-Paul la roche then on the left the route du Moulin de Margot at the crossroads turn right uphill towards Les Rivailles.
Continue the path which then turns right up into the woods at the crossroads, take the path on the right on the plateau straight through woods and fields. Crossroads of paths go straight on the grassy path continue straight through the undergrowth turn left then at the crossroads of the road to Bussière go in the middle on the dirt road between the fields come out on a road go opposite in the path of cupules where you can admire the cupule stone
Step 2 - Then find the road, continue straight on at the crossroads, go straight on the small road to arrive at a farm bridge.
Follow the road for approximately 3 km. Crossroads on the left to reach a new crossroads at Petit Clos, go right to cross the road, continue opposite on the path to reach a tarmac road. Turn right at the water tower then at the crossroads take the straight Napoléon road on the left towards Thiviers before arriving at the N21 turn left into a small road and at the next crossroads go left again to join the D80 at the place called Bouilloux at the stop sign go right.
Continue straight ahead and continue on avenue Eugène Leroy at the Saint-Roch roundabout, cross with caution to take rue du Général Lamy and rue Jean Jaurès de Thiviers on the left.
