Heritage to be preserved, restored, enhanced

Reconciling the preservation of built heritage and biodiversity

Many species have coexisted with humans on a daily basis for centuries, taking advantage of the shelters offered by our built heritage and our works of art. In Périgord-Limousin, swallows regularly nest under our eaves, black swifts or kestrels in our roofs, or sparrows and tits in small joints of our stone walls... The Park therefore works to raise awareness among the various stakeholders in the area, to promote renovations that are virtuous for the buildings while taking into account the needs of the species that live there.

A training dedicated to this subject was held in October 2024.

Reconciling heritage preservation and architectural evolution

With growing environmental sensitivity, buildings are evolving towards more sober lifestyles or more modern uses. Insulation, renewable energy devices or simple adaptation of buildings to new lifestyles; these changes must be reconciled with the preservation of heritage.

Architectural innovation is often restricted by the current restrictive regulatory provisions of town planning documents, which do not guarantee quality architecture. Intervention on old buildings requires, beyond the prescriptions, specific know-how to maintain and reinforce the architectural specificities of the territory through a contemporary expression. The aim is to disseminate good practices through demonstration sites, ensuring that the maintenance of vernacular architectural characteristics, the development of high environmental performance architecture and the architectural quality of the territory, particularly in relation to operational buildings, are reconciled. agricultural.

Finally, the preservation and promotion of archaeological heritage and in particular sites of archaeological interest contribute to the policy of space management and landscape preservation.
