Development of industrial heritage

The territory, mainly made up of forests and rivers, has favored the establishment of mills and forges since medieval times. However, let us not forget the numerous tile factories, located almost everywhere on the clay seams or the quarries, the sawmills, the latter real economic nodes of wood processing, an activity still significant in the park.

Preserve and enhance industrial heritage

The objective of the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park is to provide elements of knowledge on artisanal and industrial buildings linked to natural resources and to promote them through labeling.

Inventory industrial heritage

The Heritage Inventory operation was launched in September 2016 for a period of three years. The result of a scientific and financial partnership with the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region and Europe, a researcher was recruited to carry out field operations, archives and synthesis and, as here, restitution.

Its objective is to provide elements of knowledge on artisanal and industrial buildings, elements accessible in the form of detailed notices in databases.

This work complements the studies carried out in 2003 and 2006; one on the study of the archaeological potential of the Park (DRAC Aquitaine and Limousin), the other on the landscape identity of the territory (CAUE Dordogne and Haute-Vienne).
It also contributes to the application file for the national label “Country of Art and History”, defended by the Park to the Ministry of Culture in 2019.
