Local and seasonal food for the health of the territory and its inhabitants

Many productions are present in the territory of the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park. Many of them benefit from an official quality label, not to mention the hundred or so producers in organic farming. This is an asset for the local quality of life.

Local agricultural production to promote On the plates

The agricultural area covers approximately 48% of the territory of the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park.

Cattle breeding is at the top of the local agricultural sectors, with productions recognized for their quality far beyond our region, including Limousin beef and veal raised under the mother. But there are other local productions labeled : from veal to lamb, including poultry, pork, apples, nuts, strawberries…

These productions under Official Quality Marks can be found among local food artisans. Other farmers choose direct sales to the consumer or short supply chains (a single intermediary). This marketing method is a sustainable development issue in several ways:

  • elle promotes the resources of the territory ;
  • elle induces intangible value by qualifying the territory's offering and contributing to its attractiveness;
  • elle contributes to the fight against climate change by reducing energy consumption in production and management methods and by reducing transport;
  • elle promotes the development of human beings, both through the social valorization of producers and through the satisfaction of informed consumers.

Through the promotion of local production, short circuits and food relocation are assets for the quality of life and the resilience of the territory.

Develop local agricultural sectors, taking into account environmental issues

Through its charter, the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park has set itself the objective of providing sustainable operational responses to stakeholders in the agricultural sector, in the face of socio-economic developments and climate change (food crises, fluctuations in agricultural policies, environmental impacts of the food trade, etc.).

The park's missions in this area are based on the organization of short supply chains and the promotion of local production, to enable the territory's food autonomy, the sustainability of agricultural sectors and the recognition of the work of farmers.

“Make the Valeurs Parc naturel régional brand a lever to identify and organize the region’s short supply chains”

Ensure the development and recognition of the territory through the application of brand Values Regional natural park on local products is one of the objectives of the park charter. The park thus supports producers in collective reflection to define a marketing and communication strategy for these products.

“Promote, ON A TERRITORY SCALE AND IN NEARBY REGIONS, local productions with potential”

The Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park aims to support and expand the promotion of local products. To do this, it relies on a good knowledge of distribution channels, the promotion of concerted purchasing methods between local producers and consumers and awareness-raising among different audiences (communities, schools, families, etc.). Local and seasonal food, enhanced by homemade, tasty and diversified cuisine is the recipe for a healthy territory and its inhabitants.

In compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), it is not possible to distribute the contact details of all farmers. However, there are 4 catalogues with the contact details of producers who have agreed to the distribution of their contact details and who offer direct sales. These are the Bienvenue à la Ferme 87 and 24 catalogues and the Bio Guides 87 and 24. You can find them at the Maison du Parc or in the Tourist Offices or download them from our “Farm Offer” page.

Since 2016, the Park has offered training and meeting times for cooks and local elected officials around the introduction of local and organic products into canteen menus.
