Territorial Food Project

The Territorial Food Project (PAT) of the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park began in 2017. It was launched in the form of a forum to define, in consultation, the challenges of relocating quality food to the Park. This first consultation time brought together around fifty stakeholders in agriculture and food from the region with varied profiles (agriculture, food, health, education, culture, etc.), and served as a diagnosis sensitive to supplement the agricultural data that the Park already had following projects carried out in particular with the Chambers of Agriculture.

relocating agriculture and food to the regions by supporting the installation of farmers, short supply chains or local products in canteens

The actions began in 2018 with a co-piloting with the two chambers of agriculture and AgroBio Périgord. They were built on the basis of the forum, with 3 central issues and total strong cultural dimension :

  • Developing the autonomy of collective restaurant managers
  • Developing the accessibility of quality local products in the region for individuals and for collective catering (working with farmers, raising awareness among families)
  • Reconnecting youth with food

In 2019, the Park obtained recognition of its approach from the State by obtaining a level 1 labelingThe animation of the PAT continued beyond the labeling, because the political will and the involvement of the partners were still present.

A forum organized in 2021 and the last two steering committees highlighted three key themes and enabled many partners express the wish to continue their commitment alongside the park on the following axes:

  • Raise awareness of food rooted in local agriculture for social justice, human and environmental health.
  • Equipping rural canteens to develop local, healthy and home-made cuisine, beyond the objectives ofEQUALIM
  • Supporting the success of agricultural installations and the resumption of farms

The list of actions carried out since 2018 is available on the site https://france-pat.fr/pat/pat-du-pnr-perigord-limousin/

The transversality of the Regional Natural Park's missions is reflected in our actions on food and contributes to its specificity.

The numerous consultation times organized during the year 2024 with residents, elected officials and partners show the importance of work on food and health issues in a transversal manner gave an increasing share to questions of social justice. The Agriculture and Forestry Commission declared itself in 2023 in favor of a request for level 2 labeling.
