Maintaining wetlands

Through their biological, hydrological and biochemical functions, the territory's wetlands are fragile spaces that it is important to conserve: they indeed participate in the preservation of biodiversity and water resources, on both qualitative and quantitative levels.

Preserve and sustainably manage wetlands

Wetlands are particularly rich environments that deserve our full attention.

They are considered reservoirs of biodiversity. 30% of remarkable and threatened plant species live in wetlands, around 50% of bird species depend on them and 2/3 of fish reproduce or develop there.

They also have hydrological functions that are beneficial for everyone. Indeed, we consider wetlands as a natural water filter, which eliminates many pollutants from human activities (nitrate, phosphate, pesticides, etc.). On the other hand, they are compared to sponges which absorb water during wet periods, thus limiting flooding, and restoring it when it is dry...

Acquire wetlands to better preserve them

The Park raises awareness and supports local communities or associations in their project to acquire wetlands in order to protect them. He writes management plans for them after having assessed the environment. He can also help supervise the work necessary for its proper management, and encourage renovation if necessary. The Park helps to solicit funding for these acquisitions.

Agreement with owners

When a wetland with high hydrological or ecological issues has been identified by the Park and the owner does not wish to sell, the project manager supports him in its management free of charge. As for a community, he can write a management notice or encourage restoration work... The Park project manager mobilizes funding to support the owners.

Promoting wetlands

The Park contributes to better consideration of wetlands by regularly organizing animated outings on this theme, particularly during World Wetlands Day on February 2.
